Dr. Berk has accepted the role of Lead Investigator for a national study on the effect of Eplerenome on Cardiovascular Mortality and Heart Failure Hospitalization in Subjects with NYHA Class II Chronic Systolic Heart Failure. As Lead Investigator, Dr. Berk will serve as the eyes and ears as well as provide expert insight to the Executive Steering Committee conducting this important trial.

Dr. Berk spoke about congestive failure and hypertension at the Oncology Conference at MD Anderson hospital and discussed how to prevent complications related to cancer treatments

Dr. Jack Spitzberg gave a lecture on Cardiac Issues in the Athlete at the Southwest
Sports Medicine Symposium. Dr. Spitzberg also served on the Blue Ribbon Panel to help
evaluate the 2007 Texas Super Doctors nominees for Texas Monthly magazine.

The Second Annual Primary Care Cardiology Update Symposium: In The Heart of Rockwall was held at the Hilton Bella Harbor on Lake Ray Hubbard in Rockwall, Texas. Seven of the CIVA physicians played an integral part of the symposium faculty which provided practical and clinical cardiovascular information for physicians in family and general practice, internal medicine, obstetrics, gynecology, emergency medicine, general surgery and cardiology. The focus was on pertinent information and newer approaches related to cardiovascular and peripheral vascular disease recognition, diagnosis and treatment planning. CME credits were available to attendees.
